However, as the series goes on she moves past her fear and actively starts working to make the world a better place – mainly by trying to stop her ex, Kilgrave. She starts the series as a young woman who is still living in fear of her abuser, and much of her life seems to be defined by the relationship she’s still trying to escape. Much of Jessica’s story arc focuses around her regaining control over her life. Does the character shape her own destiny? Alongside Luke Cage's Mike Colter and Iron Fist's Finn Jones, Cox and Ritter also appeared in the 2017 crossover limited series The Defenders. Jessica Jones was the second entry in Netflix's lineup of live-action Marvel dramas, following Daredevil, which itself starred Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, respectively.
